I need help customizing a Linux desktop

marjaerwinDoes anyone know anything about customizing linux desktop machines?
I need a quiet machine, and a suitable monitor, because of my sensory issues, but I don’t know anything about customizing desktop machines. I have been looking around online, but either find nothing, or find contradictory information. I can’t find anything on which processors make too much nose and which monitors are too bright, on the minimum setting, to look at. I can find some sources saying that the AMD A6/A8/A10 series work perfectly with Linux, and other sources saying the A6/A8/A10 series don’t work at all, because of driver incompatibilities. I have found a guide to customizing a desktop, but step two involves visualizing the whole machine.
