I had been a Christian. I can’t anymore.

First, too many American voters, and a majority of white and male American voters just voted for white supremacism, rape culture, conversion ‘therapy’, and the rest of the Trump campaign. So it’s a lot harder to trust people. And it’s a lot harder to assume people would reject such evils, unless I know they have rejected them.

Second, the extant gospels don’t really show Iesus repudiating rape culture. It’s likely that he did, and that his comments have been lost in the composition of the gospels. It’s possible that his comments have influenced the Pauline epistles. But it’s not certain enough. And it’s never clearly rejected in his comments about marriage, and divorce, and to the womon in the scene inserted in John. I can’t know that Iesus did reject that evil.

And without knowing that, I can’t trust Iesus enough to be a Christian.
