"Visible on Mouseover"
Oct. 12th, 2011 01:15 pmSo Ubuntu is about to release a new update. It will include Gnome 3 and Unity, and will not include Gnome 2.
Really, this spring's update was full of bugs. Last fall's update is probably the last good version. Not only did this spring's update introduce Unity, which relies on a visible-on-mouseover sidebar, like MacOS X's dock, it introduced visible-on-mouseover scrollbars. I disabled them and I imagine every other user disabled the things too, because scrollbars are necessary, and visible-on-mouseover devices so often go haywire. And this fall's update, Oneiric Ocelot, is going to leave users with a choice between two broken desktop environments. And that's not to mention the increased reliance on searches, which are one of the weaknesses of Ubuntu. Searches list only the file name and type, but I often have two or more similarly-named files in different folders. Including the location, as well as the name, would solve this problem.
I am trying to decide whether to stay with 11.04 or reinstall 10.10. But I don't think I'm going to have any use for 11.10.
