How much violence do we face?

Unfortunately, I can't directly reply to this essay on the Transadvocate about TEPF appropriation of TDOR:

http://www.transadvocate.com/the-terf-appropriation-of-the-trans-day-of-remembrance.htm

However, I think some of the stats are misleading.

"Our best estimates indicate that one out of every 1,000 homicides in the U.S. is an anti-transgender hate crime."

But many more than 1 in every 1,000 people are trans. At this point, we're probably underestimating how many trans people are being killed, and definitely underestimating how many trans people there are, and possibly comparing lifetime stats with yearly stats.

For example, when I was starting transition, I was stunned by seeing claims that 1 in 12 trans people gets murdered, while 1 in 18,000 cis people gets murdered, but I think those figures combined all these errors.
